Privacy
Short version: your songs stay on your device.
Your files
Songs you add (audio, recordings, MIDI) are processed in your browser. The notes are worked out on your device by an AI model that runs in the page. Your files and the notes are stored in your browser's storage on this device only. They are not uploaded to us. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
Links
When you paste a link to a music file, the file is fetched through our server (so your browser is allowed to read it) and handed straight to your browser. We don't keep it. For YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud links we only look up the song's title. We never download from those services: you record the sound yourself while it plays, and that recording stays on your device.
AI models
The note-finding model is served by musictokeys. The model that separates instruments is downloaded once from Hugging Face, and its engine from jsDelivr. Both are cached by your browser. Your audio is never sent to them.
Microphone and MIDI
The microphone, or a browser tab's sound if you choose to share it, is only used while you are recording, and the recording is handled like any other file you add. MIDI keyboards are read only while the app is open.
Guitar sign-up
If you leave your email to hear about guitar support, we store that email address and the date, and use it once to tell you when guitar is ready. Nothing else.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. There are no ads and no accounts.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) to count visits and see which features are used, for example “a song was converted” or “a song was shared”. It never receives your songs, recordings, notes or song titles. Advertising features are switched off.
Google Analytics sets cookies to count returning visitors. You can block them with your browser's privacy settings or an extension; musictokeys works the same without them.
Shared songs
When you press Share, the song's notes (not your recording) are stored on Cloudflare for 90 days behind a random link, so you can open it on another device. Anyone with the link can open it.
